MSD is targeting its legacy data warehouse or replacement after winning $137 million in extra ICT funding in the Budget.
The Ministry of Social Development is scoping the replacement of its legacy data warehouse technology as it targets risk reduction in critical systems.
The Ministry said it was aiming to replace systems approaching end of life and that need to be upgraded or replaced to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services.
"This prudent and timely investment will focus on MSD’s priority legacy and historical systems and assets to
improve organisational capability and better support the front line," the Ministry said in answer to Parliamentary questions last month.
As reported in May, MSD won a $137 million investment in this year's Budget to stabilise its ICT systems.
Over the next four years, MSD said, it would be able to replace the data warehouse it uses for internal and external reporting, operational support, data matching with other agencies, and analytics functions.
The replacement data warehouse will enable MSD to improve organisational access to information, including front-line access and the ways in which information is delivered.
It would also improve its ability to implement legislative and organisational change efficiently and the governance of information assets by ensuring better privacy and security controls.
MSD said planning for its IT work portfolio for 2019/20 was still in progress,but new programme items
include annual IT asset life-cycle renewals and system enhancements and the implementation of initiatives announced in the 2019 Budget.
These include the income support package, SuperGold Digital services for seniors and NZ super changes, housing support products.
During the 2019 financial year the Ministry also inked several significant ICT contracts.
Spark and Fronde won a $5.8 million, three-year deal to deliver online self-service in the Ministry's service centres while IBM won a $14.6 million contract for its Connect 360 health and human services technology and a services agreement for Curam social programme management software.
MSD reported it had 385 full time staff and nine part timers delivering IT services in March of this year.
