Catalyst snaps up open source technology veteran

Vadacom founder joins the New Zealand owned and operated business.

Catalyst has appointed Igor Portugal as business development manager, recruiting the open source veteran to drive sales across New Zealand.

In founding Vadacom, Portugal joins the New Zealand owned and operated business after building several open source technology start-ups from scratch.

“Catalyst has an amazing story to tell the world,” Portugal said.

“Five technologists sat around a table twenty years ago and created the first New Zealand owned and operated open source start-up.”

Since its creation in 1997, Catalyst has expanded significantly and now serves clients worldwide from offices in New Zealand, Australia and the UK.

The company provides a range of open source specific services, spanning consultancy, systems integration, design, training, managed hosting and support.

Specifically, Portugal will be working with customers around open source, advocating the need for customised technology solutions.

“Our 250 staff are all passionate advocates for open source,” Portugal added. “I’m delighted to be joining them.”
