Xero hones in on regional NZ with new Hawke’s Bay office

30 new jobs in the region over the next year.

Xero will open a new office in Hawke’s Bay in 2017, deepening the company’s commitment to regional New Zealand.

The global software company Xero is targeting 30 support jobs in the first year and will monitor interest to see if further opportunities can be created in the region.

The new roles are part of Xero’s global Customer Experience (CX) team and will include specialist Payroll experts.

Xero CEO Rod Drury says the Xero Hawke’s Bay office demonstrates the company’s commitment to New Zealand and the importance of creating regional technology employment opportunities.

“It used to be that people needed to live in the major cities to accelerate their technology careers, but that’s changing quickly,” Xero CEO, Rod Drury, said.

“Along with the advent of the cloud, new technology has flattened the world to allow people who want a fulfilling job with a good life balance to do so from beautiful places like Hawke’s Bay.

“Opening this new office provides that opportunity to draw on talent across Hawke’s Bay and lessens the burden on housing and transport in cities like Auckland and Wellington - win-win.”

Drury said Xero is working with Wallace Development on the feasibility of taking space in the new Tech Hub development in Ahuriri, Napier, which is being converted from a wool store to offices with shared spaces and services for communities of entrepreneurs, freelancers and start-ups.

Telecommunications company NOW and local software company Red Jungle are already confirmed tenants, with the development set for completion early next year.

Xero first established its New Zealand presence in Wellington in 2006, and opened an Auckland office soon after.

Fast forward ten years and the company now has 21 offices in 15 locations throughout the world, and is used in more than 180 countries by more than 860,000 customers.

“Fibre has enabled world-leading innovative companies, such as Xero, to be based in our stunning region - living and working the dream,” Small Business Minister and Hawke’s Bay MP, Craig Foss, added.

“Xero’s new office is a real vote of confidence and will provide more employment opportunities, especially for young professionals.”
