Kapiti Coast-founded Aura RedShield has been appointed to the New Zealand Government’s Telecommunications-as-a-Service (TaaS) panel, as part of a lineup of corporate technology heavyweights.
As reported by Computerworld New Zealand, the government claims that TaaS is set to transform the way telecommunications services are managed and utilised by government agencies.
Via TaaS, RedShield will become a key provider to Government for secure application publishing services, protecting its websites and applications from attacks and privacy breaches, across both internal networks and those available publicly on the Internet.
“We’re hugely excited at having been appointed to the panel, and from our point of view, the timing for the launch of the TaaS initiative couldn’t be more perfect,” says Andy Prow, Managing Director, Aura RedShield.
“More and more New Zealanders are relying on Government systems to store and process their most private information.
“With today’s growing threat of cyber-attack, it’s great to see our Government taking such critical, proactive steps to monitor, and protect against, those threats.
“RedShield has the ability not only to shield applications from within New Zealand, but our global network of ‘nodes’ also allows us to absorb attacks on New Zealand from overseas.”
Prow says RedShield currently deflects almost one million attacks each week from overseas sources, targeting local public and private sector organisations.
“Prior to the launch of TaaS there were a number of Government applications already using the RedShield service, so we know the threat is real,” Prow adds.
“We’re strong advocates for the strengthening of New Zealand’s online systems against the growing global threat, and TaaS is a great step forward in achieving that.”
The TaaS panel is administered by the Government Chief Information Officer at the Department of Internal Affairs, and reflects the goals of the Government ICT Strategy and Action Plan.
