800 on board as Oracle ups local Cloud ante

Oracle hires more than 800 new salespeople in Asia-Pacific as it bids to challenge the world’s leading enterprise cloud firms.

Oracle has hired more than 800 new salespeople in Asia-Pacific as it bids to challenge the world’s leading enterprise cloud firms.

Coming three months after the company launched a campaign to increase its sales workforce by 1,000, with new staff also expected in New Zealand, Oracle hopes the move will help capitalise on the growth of cloud computing across the region.

As reported exclusively by Reseller News at the time, Oracle will hire between 20 and 30 new sales staff in New Zealand this year, as the tech giant continues its cloud growth across the region.

Oracle's fiscal fourth-quarter results showed that Oracle sold A$426 million in new Software as a Service (SaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) business this quarter, more than any cloud services company has sold in a single quarter.

“We are seeing significant momentum in our cloud business in Asia Pacific as more companies embrace cloud computing,” says Loic Le Guisquet, President, EMEA & APAC, Oracle.

“Cloud is transforming businesses, and Oracle understands that this fundamental change requires not only the best technologies, but also the best people.

“Our recruiting initiatives have already been tremendously successful and we are excited to expand our sales force to help guide more companies through their cloud transformations.”

According to Oracle, the new cloud salespeople come from a wide array of backgrounds, from established IT companies to newly founded start-ups.

New recruits also come from line of business positions in a wide variety of industry sectors such as finance, manufacturing, telecoms and utilities.

“Cloud is helping Australian and New Zealand businesses to grow, become agile, and innovate,” adds Tim Ebbeck, Regional Managing Director, Oracle Australia and New Zealand.

“Our recruitment campaign has enabled us to hire some exceptionally talented employees who can help our customers in Australia and New Zealand achieve their business goals.”

Stemmed from strong cloud growth, Ebbeck told Reseller News in April that the new sales team will be tasked with selling offerings around software-as-a-service (SaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), as the vendor experiences “significant demand” in the market.
