Adhering to strong market demand nationwide, New Zealand backup provider Plan B has ramped up its offerings as a Veeam Cloud Connect Partner, calling on Kiwi resellers to extend the privileges to customers across the country.

Reported first by Reseller News in December last year, the Auckland-based firm is now able to offer Veeam customers the ability to extend existing backup infrastructures to the cloud for added protection of critical data.

Reenforced at the Westcon BlueSky 2015 event in Auckland, in front of a packed room of resellers, Richard Coggins, Customer Solutions Architect, Plan B explained how through Veeam Cloud Connect, customers can achieve greater resiliency in business.

“As our customers move towards Veeam Cloud Connect, so is the market,” he said. “Customers want it and given Plan B is recognised as a Cloud Connect Partner and Gold ProPartner, we are in a position to answer the demand.”

As explained by Coggins, Veeam Cloud Connect, which is part of the new Veeam Availability Suite v8, providers customers with a fully integrated and secure way of moving backups to an offsite backup repository managed by the service provider of their choice, avoiding the upfront capital investment of their own offsite infrastructure.

As a result, service providers receive a powerful platform to deliver fast and secure backup to the cloud for its customers.

“Coming from a backup and continuity aspect,” Coggins added, “our goal is to ensure customers can restore and get up and running as quickly as possible.

“But interestingly for Plan B, given the many activations we receive on a yearly basis from our customers, over 2014 alone, we’ve found that customers have experienced major issues.

“And we’re not just talking about losing a folder or a file, more so around outages and multiple systems being down.”

The problem? “It’s usually triggered by hardware faults,” Coggins said, alluding to the golden rule of data recovery for businesses.

Championed by Veeam, Plan B recommends that IT organisations follow the 3-2-1 rule: three copies of data on two different kinds of media, one of which is off site.

“Veeam Cloud Connect enables IT to satisfy the offsite requirement without having to invest in offsite infrastructure or management, since cloud resources are available on demand,” Coggins explained.

With global data centre systems spending expected to smash the US$140 billion mark this year, many analysts firms and vendors believe such growth will be driven by the customer demand for virtualisation and cloud.

As organisations modernise their infrastructures to deliver the Always-On Business, IT managers are increasingly looking to service providers for help, particularly in getting a copy of their data off site.

Cloud backup is already a large market, and it’s growing. According to a recent report from Storage Magazine, 31 percent of organisations are planning to use cloud services for disaster recovery and business continuity, as part of an overall availability plan.

In a boost for local resellers, as a Veeam Gold ProPartner, Plan B is a key partner for Veeam in the New Zealand market, offering offsite backup supported by a specialised team of recovery experts.

“Veaam Cloud Connect is an extension of Veeam’s solution portfolio,” Coggins added. “By eliminating the need for customers to deploy costly off-premise infrastructure, for resellers, the benefits are simple; it’s easy and offsite.”
